The giraffe is named after the person who first received the Covid-19 vaccine in the UK
A British-born giraffe this week was named Margaret in honor of the country's first person to be vaccinated with Covid-19.
Margaret Keenan, 90, was the first person in the world to be vaccinated with Pfizer-BioNTech on December 8, almost at the same time a giraffe was born.
"Our giraffes were born on the same day and even at the same time when the Covid-19 vaccine that many had been expecting was launched. It is a moment of hope that we want to celebrate and remember."
The zoo said Margaret belonged to an endangered giraffe subspecies, with fewer than 9,000 worldwide.
From December 8, the UK started "V-day" (Vaccine Day), marking the largest vaccination wave in history.
